Whalebone Cottage

The fishing port of Whitby lies at the mouth of the River Esk and is well placed for exploring this wonderful part of Yorkshire with its spectacular coastline and the magnificent North York Moors. St Hildas Abbey is high on Whitbys East Cliff as is the parish church of St Mary and the 199 steps leading up to them is well worth the climb. Bram Stoker was inspired by the atmospheric town to write Dracula. Whitby is also famous for Jet, a beautiful gemstone and the Victorian Jet Works will shed insight into the jet industry. Other attractions in Whitby are the Captain Cook Memorial Museum and the Dracula Experience. With its safe beaches and access to the North York Moors, Whitby is a tremendous base for a family holiday.
