The Wheelhouse

The peaceful valley of the Esk is the setting for Danby in the heart of the North York Moors. The village has an interesting history and is home to a 14th Century ruined castle and the last remaining working water mill on the River Esk. The Esk Valley Railway line runs through Danby and takes in some stunning scenery as it winds its way to Whitby. Danby Lodge is a historic building set in 13 acres of beautiful riverside pasture and has an excellent visitor centre with exhibitions, tea-rooms, a gift shop and various walks going through the parkland. The villages of Hutton-le-Hole and Lastingham and the town of Pickering are all within easy reach, as are the coastal villages of Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes, and Saltburn.

This imaginatively converted property is located in a beautiful setting and provides comfortable accommodation for up to eight people.

This barn and wheelhouse conversion is a stunning property on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Many of the original features have been retained including the enormous old beam that once powered the mill. The inviting and cosy sitting room is in the skeleton of the wheelhouse and is a quirky octagonal shape with windows on three sides to take in the views. The modern, well-equipped kitchen has a bright and airy dining area and there are three spacious and peaceful bedrooms, one of them on the galleried landing over the sitting room. The modern bathroom is on the ground floor and there is a first floor shower room. This welcoming property makes a wonderful base for a holiday in this fabulous area.

Full oil central heating and woodburning stove. Electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher, colour TV with freeview, DVD,  video, 2 x stereo/CD etc. All fuel, power and logs inc. in rent. Bed linen inc. in rent.
